There’s a new restaurant and bar in Charlottesville that offers people a trip around the world without leaving their bar stool.

World of Beer – Charlottesville officially opens its doors Monday, Sept. 22, in The Flats at West Village on West Main Street. The bar and grill features 57 rotating taps, an infusion tower, a cask engine for unfiltered beer, and two large four-door coolers showcasing different styles of beer from all over the world.DSC_0556

While the Charlottesville venue is just one of several locations for the chain of beer bars headquartered in Florida, general manager Dan Bednar and franchise owner Bob Dorfman have not lost sight of the importance and emergence of local craft breweries.

“There’s definitely a momentum here that I can’t see slowing down,” said Bednar, who lives in Charlottesville.

As part of its nod to local businesses, World of Beer has done a collaboration Hefeweizen-style beer with Three Notch’d Brewing Co. and has given Champion Brewing Co.’s Killer Kolsch first dibs on its infusion tower – a special gadget that fuses fruits or herbs with the beer.

In addition, the theme for World of Beer’s soft opening on Sunday night was “Support Local, Drink Local.” The opening doubled as a fundraiser for local nonprofit organizations with $1 from every drink and $2 from every local draught purchase donated to the Red Shoe Foundation and Albemarle County SPCA.DSC_0555

Above all, Bednar said World of Beer wants to offer a well-rounded experience for its customers to hang out, have fun, and drink good beer. The bar and grill will even host live music on the weekends on its indoor and outdoor stages.

“It’s not just about the beer, not just about the food or the music,” Bednar said, noting World of Beer hopes to offer a “collective experience.”

The general manager said World of Beer aims to be everyone’s “favorite place to drink, eat, connect and be entertained.”

Despite the overwhelming amount of beer on tap and within arm’s reach, the venue also offers wine and spirits for those who may want to taste something different.

“We don’t want to be just for people that drink beer,” Bednar said.DSC_0572

For those looking for late-night grub or something to pair with their beer, the restaurant offers tavern fare with German pretzels, Mac & Cheese, Pickle Chips, Tavern Taters, and chicken wings among the many choices. The menu also includes flatbread pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, soups, and salads. World of Beer’s main plates include an IPA Glazed Atlantic Salmon, Craft Bourbon Chicken, and Steak Frites.

World of Beer will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. See you there, Cville!
