Checking in with the Locals: Elizabeth Casey

It’s been one year since we started checking in with the local-loving people of Charlottesville, featuring the faces of Cville and their top picks every week.

For this special occasion, we’re checking in with the Cville Niche Team! This group of locals is passionate about what they do in this great city. So far we’ve checked in with founder Kat Diplas and editor Linnea White. In the coming weeks, get to know the faces of Cville Niche!

Check out our past year of local check-ins!

You may know her as the gal behind the Local Artists Check-ins, a segment that spotlights the great art scene in Cville. Thanks to Elizabeth for bringing a new element to Niche – you will be missed!

Describe what you do in town.

I have been a student in Charlottesville for the past 5 years and graduated last month from UVA with a B.A. in History and Master of Teaching and have been writing for the Niche since January. I love exploring all the Charlottesville area has to offer including everything from the arts, to coffee, to the outdoors, and I will miss it so much as I am off to start my teaching career in Northern Virginia next month. I have loved getting immersed in the galleries, concert venues, and other artistic niches of Cville and have enjoyed adding a personal touch to the stories of our local artists!

Describe yourself in 5 syllables or less.

Constantly learning.

A favorite drink in town.

A cup of black coffee or a chai latte at Para Coffee on the Corner. There coffee is delicious and I love the atmosphere. I have had so many good get togethers with friends or study sessions over their coffee, it is sure to be a must stop when I come back to visit.

A favorite local gallery/venue to see art.

I love walking around McGuffey Art Center. They have such a great variety of artists and the windows and lighting are perfect. I love that it is not only a place to see great local art, but it also gives the visitor a chance to see the artist’s process. Seeing scattered paints and arts materials and the unfinished works along with the polished and finished pieces is such an experience.

A favorite local shopping destination.

Roxie Daisy on the Downtown Mall. It is such an inspiring place to find unique items for your home or fun accessories. I always walk out with new ideas.
