Charlottesville is a city filled with local-loving people, and a spirit of community and collaboration unlike anywhere else. Every week, Cville Niche will celebrate that spirit by featuring a local’s top picks. Check out previous local check-ins!

Describe what you do in town (whether it be your job or local interest/involvement in Cville).

I’m a personal trainer and coach at MADabolic Cville. You can find our class schedule online. MADabolic offers intense interval training and I love every second of every class– whether I’m teaching or taking!

Describe yourself in 5 syllables or less.

MAD type-A athlete.

Top Picks

A favorite dish in town, what it’s called, where it’s at, describe what makes it special/different/one of your favorites.

“Gambas al’ parilla” at Mas Tapas. Jumbo shrimp with galic alioli and grey salt. There are no words for how good each bite is. They leave the shells on so it’s a bit of a mess but that’s part of the fun.

A favorite drink in town, what it’s called, where it’s at, describe what makes it special/different/one of your favorites.

“Citizen 75” at Citizen Burger Bar on the Downtown Mall– house bubbly, Virginia gin, simple syrup, and fresh lemon. It’s simple and perfect.

A favorite local music venue, name of venue, where’s it located, what makes it special, most recent show you enjoyed there.

The Jefferson Theater on the Downtown Mall– I love that you can sit upstairs or join the standing crowd on the lower level. I went to Delta Rae a few weeks ago (even more special because I won tickets through 106.1 The Corner!) and it was amazing. They performed “Bottom of the River” using real chains on a metal trash can– it was intense and a bit haunting but so so good.
