Checking in with the Locals: Tim Edmond

Charlottesville is a city filled with local-loving people, and a spirit of community and collaboration unlike anywhere else. Every week, Cville Niche will celebrate that spirit by featuring a local’s top picks. Check out previous local check-ins!

From a love of craft beer and a college friendship came what we know as some of the best cider in the area. This local is part of the cidermaking duo taking over our tastebuds one delicious sip at a time. And his pup Rennie is taking over our hearts one adorable encounter at a time (cue the aw’s).

Describe what you do in town (whether it be your job or local interest/involvement in Cville).

I am a co-owner of Potter’s Craft Cider. We make hard cider in Free Union, VA about 20 minutes northwest of Charlottesville. Our cider is available on draft and in bottles around town, and we are currently in the process of renovating a 1965 Airstream trailer which will become our tasting room.

Describe yourself in 5 syllables or less.

This is getting awkward.

Top Picks

A favorite drink in town, what it’s called, where it’s at, describe what makes it special/different/one of your favorites.

Whenever I find myself downtown, it is usually drinking beer at the Whiskey Jar. I am so happy that they have recently expanded their draft selection. Great food, great staff, great beer. The Jar is uncompromising in their support of local food and drink.

A favorite weekly or monthly food special, what’s the special, where’s it at, and why you love it.

Forage dinner series. If you haven’t been to a Forage dinner you need to check one out out. The dinners are all seasonal, the food is local, they are themed (I dress up for all of them), and the food is hands down the best that I have eaten in Charlottesville. The upcoming dinner is themed Masquerade, the menu looks outstanding, and this upcoming dinner will be held at one of my favorite places in town, The Woolly Mammoth.

A favorite local music venue, name of venue, where’s it located, what makes it special, most recent show you enjoyed there.

The Southern Cafe and Music Hall is my favorite Cville venue. The last show that I caught there was David Wax Museum, an awesome band who recently took up residency at the Southern for a series of shows. I will definitely see them again while they are in town.
