Charlottesville is a city filled with local-loving people, and a spirit of community and collaboration unlike anywhere else. Every week, Cville Niche will celebrate that spirit by featuring a local’s top 3 picks. Check back often to see what the locals love!

Top 3 Local Picks

A favorite dish in town, what it’s called, where it’s at, describe what makes it special/different/one of your favorites

The dish that I dream about but doesnt exist anymore, was the potato cakes with smoked salmon at Maya’s brunch. So sad. I also really like the Fajitas Texanas at Guadalajara. Grilled veggies and meat with a side of guacamole and rice and beans. Yum! Be sure to ask for their homemade hot sauce. And this dish is big enough to share, and usually includes leftovers.

A favorite weekly or monthly food special, what’s the special, where’s it at, and why you love it

I love Bangs $6 Wednesday Tapas. Today is Thursday – Waa!! My friend Hope has discovered that you need to order about 2 1/2 items per person, so with this special and a amazing $6 martini, you can get out with a full stomach and a little tipsy for under $30. Yes!

A favorite local artist (any type other than musician), who is it, what type of medium do they use, where was your favorite showing of their art

My favorite artist in town is Rebekah Graves, not only is she my studio mate, but she has got her shit together! She makes amazing handmade lighting sculpture, and has recently installed at the Atlanta Decorative Arts center. Her lights give off a warm cozy glow, in organic inspired shapes like the Honeycomb.
