Do you need to purge your closet for some Spring cleaning? Need a place to drop off your gently worn clothing items AND make a little cash to add NEW items to your wardrobe? Then head on over to newly opened boutique Trade and trade your goods for cash!
Trade is Cville’s newest boutique, located in the Barracks North Wing Shopping Plaza, in between Sweet Frog and Levy’s.
Laura Van Camp of jean theory: shared the scoop on the new sister store Trade, open to the public as of April 20th!
What inspired Trade? The name? The concept? Splitting the store into two locations (for inherited and new)?
jean theory: had a lot going on, specializing in both premium denim and designer resale clothing. I felt both parts of the concept would reach their full potential if they were divided and could focus solely on their purpose. At jean theory:, we really need to be able to focus on finding every woman their perfect fitting jean. We weren’t able to give the time, attention, or space to all the amazing pieces of clothing everyone was bringing to us. But as of Saturday the 20th, that is no longer the case. 🙂
The name – it’s where you “trade” your clothes.
Can a customer bring in inherited clothes to Jean Theory still, or will all traffic be directed to Trade?
Going forward, jean theory: will only accept gently worn jeans, but Trade will take tops, dresses, pants, skirts, shorts, bags, shoes, scarves and jackets, and jeans (so you don’t have to go to two different stores).
How great that the store credit from inherited clothes can be used at Trade or Jean Theory! How do you see the relationship between the two stores developing? Shared sales, shared events, etc.
I truly feel the opportunities here are endless. They won’t share everything because they are two separate stores, but I know this expansion will enable us to do many cool promotions.
How’s this for starters – the week of April 22nd – show your Foxfield ticket at either store and get 25% off any dress!
How will this change allow Jean Theory to grow and expand in new ways?
jean theory: will now be able to focus solely on jean fittings and wardrobe consulting. jean theory: has always been full of classic essentials, but now we have the space to offer a larger selection. We also just introduced our own line of eco-friendly basics called d. n. a. (dedicated natural apparel).
Consignment shops are a new boutique trend in Cville. What will make Trade a must-visit boutique?
Ah, SO many reasons!
If you’re buying clothing: Trade has an amazing selection due to very high standards in what we accept, at really low prices – dresses start at $18; tops at $10. Being in Barrack’s (with parking!) we are convenient, plus we employ really cool, helpful people, so shopping is always just fun! We are not only locally owned, we’re locally sourced (our inventory comes from Charlottesville residents), so you would be stimulating the economy double! We’re also really focusing on creating an eco-friendly business – our bags are recycled, our cleaning products are green… We’re a little limited with what we can do with our space since it’s only a temporary lease, but we’ll find a permanent home soon.
If you’re selling your clothing: We’re actually not consignment; we pay cash up front and can tell you exactly what you’re getting for each item. We pay you based on our projected selling price, so you get paid whether we sell your item or not. You don’t need to set up (and pay for) an account, make an appointment, or check back to see if your items have sold. And mostly, you’ll want to sell your clothes to us because you’ll want to shop with us. We pay you 45% of the projected selling price up front if you spend the money at jean theory: or Trade.
Inherited Clothing Criteria
Let’s talk money: Trade pays cash (30% of the projected selling price) or store credit (45%) on the SPOT.
Let’s talk condition: Clothing items must be “in current season and style, freshly laundered, free of spots, stains, holes, and signs of wear, folded (no hangers, please), and in shopping bags.” Limit 2 shopping bags per visit.
