Weaving together elements of country, folk, and pop, West Virginia native and singer-songwriter Ashley McMillen has been making her mark on the local music scene for the last several months.  Tonight she will be releasing her first EP Now I Know at the Southern Café and Music Hall.  Since joining up with the Cville Songwriter’s Circle last spring, McMillen has been turning heads with a number of local performances, most notably at the 2011 Songwriter Competition at Rapunzel’s Coffee and Books, where she received an honorable mention for her song and EP’s title track, “Now I Know”.  Her brand new record features five original songs inspired by her upbringing, her family, and her own personal experiences.

Tonight she will be accompanied by Bahlmann Abbott on pedal steel, Johnathan Chance on Bass, Rusty Speidel on guitar, Jeff Romano on guitar & harmonica, and Stuart Gunter on drums.

The show will be opened by fellow Charlottesville singer-songwriters Scott Tiernan and Shanna Hoar, both of whom participated with McMillen in the 9 Series of Songwriters at the Southern last year.

Doors will open at 7 pm with the show to begin at 8.  Tickets are $8, but if you buy yours in advance for $10, you’ll get a copy of both McMillen’s new EP and Tiernan’s most recent release, Hippies. Lovers. Lawyers. & Fools.  If you can’t attend the show tonight, you can preorder a digital copy of the EP on Ashley’s Bandcamp site
