Beer Run: Wednesday Night Beer Tastings

How familiar are you with Charlottesville? If I ask where to go for good coffee, I’ll want you to tell me to go to Mudhouse or Shen Joe’s. If I want to find a great sandwich place, then I would think Bodo’s would be high on the list of options. But if I ask where to go for good beer or a bar to hangout, I had better hope that some of the first words out of your mouth will be “beer run”, because if not, you need to keep reading.

Although Beer Run has only been around for a few years, it has quickly become a favorite spot for locals in the Belmont area, attracting people with its range of quality beers both on draft, and for purchase in the store. In addition to beer, BR is also home to a great wine selection and excellent in-house food: soup, sandwiches, desserts—many of which are made with organic ingredients.

Although most evenings at BR are usually busy, one of BR’s most popular times occurs on Wednesday night… when they have their free beer tastings. Each Wednesday evening, BR hosts a different brewery, offering locals 1-2 oz samples of several beers to try out. It’s a great way to broaden your beer “palette”, or at least, get some free beer. Past tastings have included Dogfish Head (DFH), Bell’s, Brooklyn, Tröegs and local fav Blue Mountain Brewery. The tastings run from 6-8 pm, though, as most BR natives can tell you, if you even want to think about finding a place to park, you should get there at least 30 minutes early.

Follow BR to get the latest updates about tastings and specials!

I will warn you, if you come for the tasting, it’s difficult to leave BR without sticking around for dinner and maybe another beer or two. If you do, I recommend trying their Guinness cake along with a stout (Bluegrass Brewing Bourbon Barrel Stout is always a good choice).
