The Tough Mudder Virginia

Designed by British Special Forces, the Tough Mudder may well live up to its claim as “probably the toughest event on the planet.”  Each event features 10-12 miles of hills and obstacles ranging from 12-foot walls to greased monkey bars to running through kerosene-soaked straw and live wires.

This weekend, the Tough Mudder comes to the Wintergreen Resort in NelsonCounty,Virginia, and while it may be too late to take part in the event, there’s a lot of fun to be had as a spectator.  Watch over 5,000 people (myself included) this Saturday and Sunday test their mental and physical endurance, teamwork, and overall grit.  There will also be an after party with live music, food, beer, and lots of merchandise for sale!

I recommend getting a spot at the finish line, where mudders must run though a series of electrical wires, some of which carry a charge of 10,000 volts!  The event is sure to be a lot of fun, and the forecast calls for perfect fall weather – mid-60’s and sun!

Tickets for spectators are $25, but bring some cash for parking, food, and more!  Visit the Tough Mudder website for more info on spectator tickets.  The first runners start at 8 am, but the event runs all day.  You should allow plenty of time for parking and get there early for the best spot!

All proceeds from the event go to the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides physical and psychological aid to thousands of soldiers from the battlefield to right here at home.  To date, Tough Mudder participants have raised over $2 million, and that number will continue to grow.  If you can’t make it out this weekend, visit their website to see how you can support the Wounded Warrior Project.
