Season Finale of Charlottesville Ballet

Posted on April 16, 2011 by

Join Charlottesville Ballet for their grand finale of another incredible season!  On Saturday, April 16th, the company will present a variety of performances, events, and activities for all of the members of the Charlottesville community.  Get ready for a fun, educating children’s event in the morning, an amazing show in the evening featuring both classical favorites and new contemporary ballet works, and delicious desserts and coffee at the after-party!

In the morning, bring the kids to A Storybook Ballet Experience: Swan Lake.  This event will begin with a lesson about Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, which will include an on-stage introduction to basic ballet steps and to some of the dances in the ballet (in other words, parents, cameras are a must!).  After the class, you’ll have the unique opportunity to watch professional ballerinas perform excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece in a close-up, personal setting.  After the show, the children can make and decorate their own Swan crowns or tiaras with feathers and jewels.  This event is highly recommended for children ages 3-8, and all accompanying adults get free admission!  The first class is at 9am and the second is at 10:30am.

At 7:30pm in the evening, watch Charlottesville Ballet’s last performance of the season, Mainstage Two.  Whether you’re interested in classical ballet, modern dance, or dance theater, this concert incorporates it all into an exciting, diverse fusion of ballet works ranging from Tchaikovsky’s “Pas de Trois” to modern works by choreographers such as Rainey Lacey, Ariadne Conner, Kelly Silliman, Ty Cooper, Sara Jansen and Emily Mott.  Lacey’s moving new piece, A Letter to My Love, traces the journey of women during World War II as they joined the workforce and became strong, patriotic Rosie the Riveters.  Kelly Silliman’s Icon will feature guest performer Miki Liszt, the Artistic Director of Miki Liszt Dance Company and a recent recipient of the Piedmont Council of the Arts Individual Artist Award in Virginia.

After the final round of applause, go backstage and meet the talented performers, directors, and choreographers of Charlottesville Ballet at the Encore! Event, a fun, exclusive after-party with food provided by Harvest Moon Catering!
