About
The live.love.local Mission:
Cville Niche is a blog-a-zine targeted at University students and young professionals to inform them not only of events, restaurants, businesses, and retailers available in the larger Charlottesville community, but also the opportunities they have to participate together with the Charlottesville community, such as charitable local community events and a variety of social and cultural activities.
The primary goal of this magazine is to connect the UVa students with Charlottesville community and its people, as well as cross-promote with businesses through local cooperative trade. Secondly, it will also provide and expose students and young adults to a wider selection of different and enjoyable opportunities both on and off Grounds to fit a range of budgets and interests. Lastly, Cville Niche aims to be a resource and forum for reader networking, suggestions, questions and reviews.

Sustain, Inc. invites University students, staff, and the Charlottesville community to an afternoon of discussion about the role sustainable businesses play in a community. Lauren Gerner, a Charlottesville resident, owns Sustain, Inc, which is an eco-friendly lifestyle store on West Main Street. The shop offers clothing, accessories and home goods made of organic or fairly-traded materials and hand-made artwork.
“An Afternoon with Sustain, Inc.” aims to introduce the University community to Lauren and her shop, and participants will receive a coupon for a discount on their first purchase at the store.
The event will commence with an introduction from Lauren Gerner, who will discuss her shop’s philosophy. Following Lauren Gerner, Mark White of the McIntire School of Commerce will discuss sustainable business practices and sustainability within a community. Following the speakers’ portion of the afternoon, event participants will enjoy light refreshments and have the opportunity to appraise a selection of goods from Sustain, Inc. Lauren Gerner will be available to share information about her business and sustainable buying practices for retail shops.
