How important is the truth? Is it important enough to risk your professional career, or even your life?
In the film All the President’s Men, reporters Carl Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman) and Bob Woodward (Robert Redford) are investigate the Watergate scandal for The Washington Post. They are skeptical of both their ability to uncover the truth as well as their ability to work together as a team. However their editor, Ben Bradlee (Jason Robards), believes the pair to have the necessary skills and contacts to unveil the scandal and encourages the men to continue to dig for information, despite the fact that doing so might endanger both of their reputations. Secret meetings with “Deep Throat,” Woodward’s anonymous source and a senior government official, heighten the tension as Woodward and Bernstein realize that the forces at play are much greater than they anticipated as the scandal involves the entire U.S. intelligence community. In deciding to publish the full story, the pair not only exposes one of America’s greatest political scandals, but also changes the practice of American journalism forever.
The classic film will screen at The Paramount Theater on Friday, November 2nd, 7pm, with a panel discussion with Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, moderated by Governor Gerald Baliles, before the film.
