Rumor has it that the famous merchant traveler Marco Polo brought pasta to Italy from China…
Don’t hold your breath, of course it’s just a legend (or is it?) – “as any gourmand worth an ounce of orzo will quickly tell you, there isn’t a grain of truth to Polo as the pasta pioneer” – and if TLC says so, who are we to argue?
Instead of debating about who invented it, let’s celebrate the delicious genius of both countries by eating all pasta – no matter which of the two styles!
Next Monday, for one night only, Tavola, “a rustic neighborhood restaurant where patrons can eat like Italians,” is morphing into “Marco Polo” as a tribute to Asian cooking (that may or may not have been brought home by the explorer). Proceeds will benefit Children, Youth and Family Services, a local nonprofit that addresses child abuse, family conflict, poverty, parenting and early learning. Reservations will not be accepted, so come on up and take a look at the mouthwatering options on the a la carte menu…
What: Pop up restaurant –only one chance to try it!
When: April 23, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Tavola (826 Hinton Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22902)

I love Tavola, love love love it. But I do take issue with a “pop-up restaurant” that is actually IN a restaurant
I think it should really be called…. “pop-up menu” in this case!
